Our Story
How We Began
Being involved in rescue for more than 25 years, I’ve had the pleasure of helping hundreds of animals find their forever homes. Sometimes that home was ultimately with me. I tended to end up adopting those dogs with special needs either due to behavioral issues or sometimes medical needs that make adoption difficult. That is how I ended up with Precious. She was around 10 years old when she came into the rescue and was diagnosed with lung cancer and a fairly significant heart murmur. Due to the medication she needed, and her age, I ended up adopting her myself as her life span was not expected to be very long. However, due the side effects of her medications, she began to experience kidney and liver issues. I put her on an expensive, prescription dog food but in true Precious fashion, as she totally lived up to her name, she turned her nose up to the odd smelling kibble and soon began to lose significant amounts of weight. That’s when I began to research homemade dog food that would meet her dietary and medical needs. I came up with a specific recipe that she loved. She began to put weight back on, seemed happier and appeared much healthier after transitioning to her new, “gourmet ” meals. Precious lived with me for more than four years and will always hold a special place in my heart. Today’s recipe has been adjusted to meet the needs of my “ordinary” dogs but we still call it their Precious Portion at every meal. We feel that all dogs deserve a well balanced, non processed food that will keep them healthier and happier for all of their lives. All dogs deserve to be treated as if they were Precious too.
